Estimate vs. Quote?!... It's your money, choose wisely.
|
|
Keep in mind that estimates (household goods surveys) are only guidelines. Note that for a local move a mover will customarily charge the
customer for the actual hours worked (no matter what the original estimate was). For this reason you should always be cautious of underestimated moving times and you should never choose a mover based solely on the number of
hours estimated. Underestimating moves is a common ploy of movers to capitalize on the "wishful thinking" of consumers. It often leads to disappointment, frustration, and regret on the part of the customer when the
move exceeds the estimated hours.
Major Flaws:
Price uncertainty, stress when you really don't need it.
Movers get paid more if working slowly
Actual cost could go as high as a few times the estimated cost
Hidden costs, complex pricing terminology, good luck on the phone dealing with the pro's! |
A binding written quote specifies in advance the precise cost of the move based on the services requested or deemed necessary at the time of
the quote. If you add items to be moved or require additional services, such as packing, between the time of the quote and the time of your move, there will be additional charges. An addendum providing for these additional
charges will be prepared for your signature prior to your move date.
Quote is based on the information provided by you. Should there be a significant discrepancy between the items/numbers listed on your invoice, additional charges will apply.
Advantages:
Written Quote, that is arrived at by assigning values to the actual cost drivers specific to your job.
We estimate time; price stays the same
Workers are on our time clock now
Extra charges disclosed in advance; simple policy.
With the price out of the way, let's focus on getting the job done right. |

Good guys, good price, and good equipment is all it takes. Why does it have to be complicated?
And why is it so hard to get a simple rate or quote on 99% of the moving companies' web sites?
